Lying is not good. It is dangerous. Even Abraham’s veiled deceptions endangered a Pharaoh of Egypt (Gen. 12) and an Abimelech of Gerar (Gen. 20). It is because of their lies that I have a certain kind of “fear” of militant homosexuals. Some do not seem to be concerned about the truth. In a few editorials, we have given reasons for Christian people to have a particular brand of “homophobia.” Last week, we explained that the agenda of some “gay” people is cause for concern and foreboding. This week it is their lies that concern us.
Lie number one has already been mentioned, i.e. “homophobes” are filled with hatred. This is certainly not the case for those who love God and His word and the souls of men and women everywhere. We simply share God’s disdain for sinful practices, because He is our Father. We beg those who practice homosexuality (cf. 1 Cor. 6:9) to repent just as we beg adulterers, drunkards, thieves, swindlers, and liars to change their ways for the good of their souls. If you are guilty of homosexual practices, “women with women” and “men committing shameless acts with men” (Rom. 1:26, 27), we love you and pray that you will correct what is lacking to make you spiritually whole.
Another lie is that “sexual orientation is a matter of nature.” Some argue, “God made me this way, so you can’t say anything about it. I can’t help it.” That’s a lie. Jesus said, “He who created them from the beginning made them male and female” (Matt. 19:5). As we look at the record of that creation, we hear God telling the woman, “Your desire shall be for your husband” (Gen. 3:16). Yet, the homosexual community argues that their behavior is because of a gene with which they were born. However, the Human Genome Project (look it up) discovered that there is no such gene. Scientists spent countless hours and millions of research dollars to find there is no “gay gene.” This makes sense, because it is unnatural. Individuals who have partners of the same sex are biologically unable to reproduce, and genes are passed on by reproduction. If the alleged “gay gene” ever did exist, the homosexual population would have disappeared, because the gene could not have been passed on by reproduction. It was Sigmund Freud (1856-1939) who first postulated that parental relationships with a
child ultimately determine the youngster’s sexual orientation, and now, again, it has been proven that the cause is indeed nurture and not nature.
Lie number three is, “I cannot change.” If it were a genetic condition, this might be true, but, as we have noted, this is not so. Moreover, Biblical history tells us that some genuinely homosexual people sincerely did change (1 Cor. 6:9-11). In August of 2004, Brad Harrub, Bert Thompson, and Dave Miller reported that “there are sufficient data to indicate that an individual can change his or her sexual orientation from homosexual to heterosexual” and gave the evidence that supports that statement (“This Is the Way God Made Me – A Scientific Examination of Homosexuality and the Gay Gene,” Reason and Revelation, August 2004). To say one cannot change his sexual orientation is obviously a lie.
Still another lie of homosexuality is, “There are too many of us to be ignored.” They seem to be many because they make so much noise. This is supposed to make us give in to a number that will overwhelm us. Homosexuals want us to think that one in ten of us (or more) is of this perverted lifestyle. However, the overall statistics from a recent census reveal that, in fact, homosexuals represent less than half of one percent (i.e. 0.42%) of America’s population.
Next week, in our final installment on this subject, we will deal with the effect that homosexuality
could have on our homes.
